His charisma

Martin began a missionary life, prominent for the spreading of the Gospel and for the defense of the weakest against all injustice. He faced harsh opposition from the Arian hierarchy, from paganism and even from the secularized clergy itself, but his charisma was never tarnished. He welcomed the appointment to Bishop of Tours, in France, like a divine mission: to “evangelize”, without ever evading the task that God had assigned to him.

He died in Candes, south of Tours, on November 8th, 397 A.D.; but his funerals were celebrated on the day of November 11th, at the presence of a huge crowd, among which stood two thousand monks.
